If it is the first time at YOUR YOGA STUDIO we strongly recommend that you arrive at least 20 minutes before your yoga class. We need you to fill in a “New Student” form. After your first time, we ask you to arrive at least 10 minutes before your class, so that you can get changed, prepare, and relax on your mat before class.
You will be asked to remove your footwear once inside the front door, there are pigeonholes in reception to leave shoes and boots. There are lockers in the changing rooms to leave bags and personal items . There are also small shelves inside the studio should you want to bring any valuables into the studio with you. Your mobile phone is best left in the changing area on silent, but if you must bring it into the studio please do not forget to also turn it to SILENT and place it on the shelves.
We have tried to make coming to class as easy as possible by providing clean mats and fresh yoga towels for hire @ £1 a set. We also rent shower towels @ £1 per towel, to save you carrying too much stuff to the studio. All you need to do is be here!
You need a bottle of water during and after class. We sell water and juices at YOUR YOGA STUDIO.
You will need a change of clothes, including a fresh set of underwear as you will be very sweaty!
For HOT yoga it is a good idea to wear lightweight, reasonable tight-fitting exercise clothes that you can sweat in. Loose fitting clothes that are suitable for traditional yoga may become soaked, heavy and restrictive. Also as we will be doing some postures involving bending over, loose clothes may fall over your head!
Ladies usually wear leggings or shorts and a sports bra with vest or crop top.
Gentlemen are advised to wear shorts, with or without a vest/ t-shirt.
Practicing yoga in our heated studio offers additional benefits to traditional yoga:
Come as often as you can, yoga is good for you! The more you can practice, the more benefits you will feel and see. Come to class at least 2-3 times a week and you will soon see and feel an amazing transformation within and without
Your body will love you for practicing hot yoga, but be warned at first it may tell you what you are doing is too hard for it! Most people tell the same story about their first ever class, It starts with you wondering how you will cope with the heat, never mind doing the postures and it ends with you relaxing on the mat questioning why you had never done this fantastic HOT yoga before, you feel amazing and want to feel like this everyday and so your HOT yoga journey begins and your Hot yoga body appears.
Yes. A person burns approx 600-800 calories per hour by practicing hot yoga. 1lb of body fat contains 3500 calories, if you do not eat extra or diet, you will lose at least 1lb of body fat in 5 classes. Reducing your calorie intake slightly and choosing healthier foods will also help you lose weight. We can discuss this with you at the studio.
Holding poses in intense heat builds more deep muscle tissue, which burns more stored fat. Hot yoga can really help your weight loss. Your diet will also improve as your body craves healthier food when practicing yoga regularly.
Do not eat just before class as we will be bending and twisting your tummy and internal organs! Everybody is different; some take longer to digest food than others. You will soon find out how long before practice you can eat. We suggest you leave at least 1.5 hours between eating and practicing yoga, but if you’re ravenous have something light like a water based soup/ fruit/ juice.
Yes, come to class hydrated, it will make your practice much more enjoyable. It is very important to drink lots of water before, during and after class.
2 liters of water a day is the recommended daily intake for the average person but as you practice Hot yoga you should aim to drink more than this to allow your body to sweat efficiently and eliminate toxins.
Herbal teas, coconut water, fresh fruit and vegetable juices are all great for hydrating you quickly and are all available at our juice bar!
You do not need to be flexible to practice yoga; increased flexibility will come in time as you practice. Most of us spend our day sitting down at work or engaging in repetitive motion that shortens muscles. Practicing yoga enables you to lengthen your muscles and release built up toxins.
Hot yoga classes are recommended for everyone 16 years and over. If you are between 14 and 16 you will need consent from your parent or guardian. YOUR YOGA STUDIO runs classes suitable for youths in our room temperature studio.
If you are pregnant, and have less than 6 months experience of practicing hot yoga regularly we do not advise it .We always recommend that you consult your doctor as a precaution. Theories on whether pregnant women should practice hot yoga vary.
