Yoga is great for both your body and mind. HOT yoga offers some additional benefits!

Weight Loss

Holding poses in intense heat builds more deep muscle tissue, which burns more stored fat. Hot yoga can really help you loose weight. Detoxification

Sweating is not just your body’s way of cooling you down; it also expels toxins from your system. Allowing your body to sweat regularly is vital in order for the body to get rid of waste, absorb fresh nutrients and rehydrate.

Be prepared to sweat lots in your hot yoga class!

Healthy Connective Tissue

Connective tissue includes your muscles and nervous system.Practicing yoga helps unblock the body’s connective tissue, allowing increased oxygenated blood to reach every inch of your body. Hot yoga enhances this process, allowing your body to extend the stretches more fully, and so renewing and improving the function of your whole being. The process will result in greater flexibility and energy all round.

Boosts Immunity

Viruses don’t survive in high temperatures; so increasing the body’s core temperature helps fight infections. Infections are removed from the body through sweat. Practicing HOT yoga also increases the body’s production of white blood cells, which also fight infection.

Stress Release

The intense focus required in yoga helps to calm and center the mind, resulting in greater focus and clarity of thought. Learning to pay attention to your breath and how to control it, results in a more composed and relaxed approach to life generally.

How to practice HOT yoga safely

Hydration

Hydration before, during and after class is essential! Keeping well hydrated allows the body to sweat, detoxify and cool down. Drink plenty of water before , during and after your hot yoga class. Drink when you feel you need to, do not wait to be told to do so by your instructor.

You may have visted studios in the past who regulate your water intake during practice, we do not share their view. If drinking sips of water throughout class helps your practice, then do it! It is normal to try and wait until 20 mins into the class to allow your body to heat up, do try to do this, but if it is too difficult to begin, don't worry, you will adapt in time and maybe even one day, you will not feel the need to drink during practice atall. It is your body, listen to it. Drink water whenever you want.

Replenish

Drinking water alone may not be enough to replenish you after HOT yoga, as the body also loses vital salts (electrolytes) via sweat. These need to be replaced. We have juices on sale at reception that contain these essential electrolytes .We also highly recommend coconut water, which is packed full of valuable potassium which plays a key role in fluid balance and muscle contraction. 

Listen To Your Body

If you start to feel dizzy or nauseous during a HOT yoga class; your body may be taking some time to adjust to the heat. If at any point you feel that way, please remain on your mat and sit in Child’s Pose   or Hero’s Pose and breath slowly. It is youryoga practice; take breaks whenever you need them. Do not push through any uncomfortable pain and drink water whenever you need to. Try to remember that experience levels may vary in the room and that everyone has “good” days and “bad” days. If you feel unwell, please to stay in the room until you have recovered slightly. A sudden change in temperature can be shocking to the system and make you feel worse.

Before HOT Yoga

Drink plenty of water throughout the day but avoid caffeinated drinks. Wear clothing made from natural, breathable fabrics and definitely avoid eating within the hour before your class. Try to get plenty of potassium in your diet (leafy greens, bananas, avocado, salmon, etc.), as this will prevent your body from dehydrating and/or feeling nauseous during class.

After HOT Yoga

Have a cool shower and drink plenty of fluid, preferably ones that contain electrolytes. Eat healthy food.
